Originally from Mexico City, Coach Garcia relocated to San Francisco at the age of 12, where he discovered his passion for boxing in the city's Mission District. Today, he coaches at the renowned Kings Boxing gym in Oakland, training both beginners and professionals. He also runs an affordable youth program at a Parks and Recreation center in Berkeley, offering kids a positive outlet for their energy and stress—an opportunity he didn't have growing up. Through his coaching, David is determined to break the cycle he sees in many of the youths' lives. He strives to be the mentor he wished he had, guiding them to grow not only physically but also emotionally.

Often, his young boxers do their homework next door before heading to practice, and Garcia sponsors many of them, providing fruits and healthy snacks to encourage good eating habits, and paying their dues when thery can’t afford it. He believes in looking after their well-being, which means steering them away from junk food and sodas. Over time, the community has rallied around his efforts. Adults now donate to the program, contributing funds.
