Greenhouse South LA centers its work around real, hands-on opportunity—starting with young people learning the trade of electricity through an “earn while you learn” model that builds both skill and confidence from day one. What began simply, with kids always coming by, evolved naturally; as founder Wendy and Ken describe it, the house became a hub—a safe, consistent space where young people could gather, be seen, and grow. In a community where youth are often overlooked, they emphasize that kids in South LA are not given enough credit, even though they are future leaders.
Many of those same young people are already stepping into leadership roles, including becoming environmental advocates who care deeply about their neighborhoods and the world around them. Greenhouse South LA doesn’t deal in abstract ideas—it creates real pathways, where practical skills, mentorship, and community intersect, allowing youth to build something tangible for their futures while being supported in a space that recognizes their value and potential.
