Michael "Big Mike" Straumietis founded Humanity Heroes on the belief that success comes with a responsibility to help alleviate suffering. Over the past decade, the organization has assisted more than 100,000 people experiencing homelessness through Humanity Packs, outreach events, and partnerships with nonprofits across California and beyond. Big Mike's philosophy centers on taking direct action—using available resources to meet immediate needs while treating every person with dignity and respect.
That mission was on full display at Humanity Heroes' recent Skid Row Block Party, where hundreds of community members gathered alongside dozens of nonprofit partners. Volunteers distributed Humanity Packs—backpacks filled with essential supplies—along with food, clothing, hygiene items, and connections to local services. The event reflected the organization's hands-on approach: bringing people together to provide practical support and restore dignity to those who need it most.
